Could This Be True?
Once during my life in college, there is a co-op there; a mini grocery that sell varieties, from food to drinks, junk and nutritious. My favourite goods? A RM1.00-soy drink, 250ml (forgot what brand) and a RM1.50-100plus bottle when my allowance is deposited.
One day the price of air kotak (soft drinks) went up to RM1.10, all of a sudden even without announcement from Menteri Pertanian yang harga soya naik. Shit! you might say dude, just add 10 sen bhai, but IB students dont have time to dig a 10cent from their wallet. Give RM2.00 la then! You would think x1000 times to do that to our ko-op seller. Sure2 kena sound punya.
From there-on, im switching to my 100plus drink. Ala, lebeh 4 posen je, why not? Not me alone, others felt it as well because the price for all air kotak went up 10cent. The difficulty of getting 10cents has decreased the demand of soft drinks in the college.
Economics student mesti tau Veblen and Giffen goods. But have you heard about Rusydi's goods? It obeys the law of demand but with a bit addition.The demand of the goods is affected by the price of the goods, together with customer laziness upon getting few coins to complete the payment. Pergh..
Like the soft drinks la, The price RM1.00 is comfortable enough, but raising it to RM1.10 kicked out a few lazy customer. If raised to RM1.50 maybe ok because we have 50cents coin. Raising it to RM 1.70 might be ok too since we can just lend RM2.00 instead of providing a massive 70cents (baik save untuk vending machine).
That is the graph hahaaha.Increasing price only by10 cents dont do the trick nowadays. If you want to increase the price, round it to nearest note, senang orang tak payah nak pikir pasal coins. 10 sen tu yg sebabkan demand decrease. However, I think this is only applicable to cheap goods macam air kotak dengan roti gardenia je. Tak pernah pulak dengar harga kereta seratus ribu seposen sebijik muahaha.
After all, dont seriously google the Rusydi's goods; I named it myself sebab bengang dengan harga air kotak RM1.10 kat kedai.(Google karang keluar gambar pape ntah, hahaha)...Manalah nak cekup 10 sen kan, segan kat orang yg beratur kalau nak mintak kat kawan ...Mungkin sebab ini juga harga air kotak di kolej eventually dropped back to RM 1.00. Sorry for non-economics student yg x paham. Ala senang je boleh faham punya kalau baca banyak kali. Sekian. =)
